They were dragged from their houses at midnight and jailed. Larkin and Lacey had revealed that a grand jury sought their articles about the Sherriff.

The grand jury also demanded to know the citizens who had read the reporters` articles, from the New Times stories, regarding the Sherriff. Larkin and Lacey used their advocacy experience to sue the county based on the First Amendment Rights.

The Court of Appeal required Maricopa county to compensate the reporters for violating their rights.

 

Lacey and Larkin Fight Back Against Latino and Hispanic Profiling

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, two news executives from Village Voice Media that publish stories for the Phoenix New Times, are fighting back against the racial-profiling of Latino and Hispanics.
